Finally, questions from core participants:

On there not being records from the Interferon era; they said there wasn’t a central register, and it was prone to the missing/old records issue.

On the use of the 1991 end stop date for HCV if that is affected by the Inquiry findings; they said they would want to act on that.

On the use of blood samples for other uses; they said they are looking at it as a research project and are working on checking if anonymised records or pre-consent is required, but nothing would happen without first checking with an ethical review board.

On the use of online portals related to those who may not have access to the Internet; they said the online portal is just one option among a range of ways for people to be engaged with.

The Chair had no additional questions.

The witnesses had no additional comments, but just a minor clarification.

The Chair thanked the panel, being busy clinicians, and mentioned the value in having  their evidence. The approaches being taken in England and Scotland have been particularly informative and instructive.
