13 May 2022: Collinge - D

And now we are in the home straight that is questions from core participants:

The DuPont product use elsewhere: He does not think so.

How many patients in his clinic: He gets about 150 referrals per year, and it is going up.

Incubation periods: He says that in animal results, the lower the exposure, the longer the incubation period.

Pre-existing conditions making things worse: He says there is no evidence, but it is not inconceivable.

Incubation and pre-existing conditions: He doesn’t know of any evidence of one influencing the other.

Supporting people into the future: He would always welcome referrals.

Sir Brian had no questions.

Prof Collinge had no final comments to make.

In closing and thanking the witness, Sir Brian mentioned the very welcome balance and openness from the witness which is not always the case with other witnesses. The Chair also highlighted the potential upset today’s evidence about vCJD could cause people. He pointed to the Red Cross helpline service that was available. This seems to have been a needed reminder given the looks on peoples’ faces. The masks certainly did not hide that.

Home time.
